摘要:Applying an informal industrial ecosystem perspective, this study critically examines the social impacts of urban regeneration on temporary migrants. By integrating spatial agglomeration of industrial chains, social network embeddedness, and informal operation mechanisms, this holistic framework offers a systemic lens that captures the interdependencies crucial for sustaining migrant livelihoods, thereby transcending previous research focused on individual households or community-level economic displacement. Using the case of KangLu in Guangzhou, China, a garment production hub employing over 300,000 migrants from Hubei Province, data was collected through field observations and interviews with factory owners, workers, village committee members, and representatives of the Hubei Chamber of Commerce. The findings suggest that urban regeneration can undermine village-based industrial ecosystems rooted in geographic proximity and kinship ties. This process potentially triggers cascading impacts, including the disruption of localized supply chains, the erosion of trust-based cooperative networks, and significant constraints on migrants' capacity to rebuild livelihoods elsewhere. The Small Order, Quick Response model may face collapse as the informal ecosystems upon which migrants rely are destabilized. Because the interdependent conditions supporting these adaptive strategies often appear difficult to replicate, relocation risks becoming not merely a physical move, but a process that could fundamentally impede livelihood reconstruction. By revealing how regeneration generates complex, indirect, and cumulative impacts on temporary migrants as invisible groups, the results enriched the discussion of economic displacement from material asset losses to ecological niche deprivation. Regarding industrial gentrification as a globally shared exclusion mechanism, an ecosystem perspective to examine systemic disruptions in the process of urban regeneration is thus proposed.
